What does a person feel, working through the night in a small room under a yellow light soft enough not to tire the eyes? What do they imagine, what do they wait to live…

After we had shared those inward observations with one another, "yearning for home" was born as an expression of those feelings.

And once we had begun, we saw how full we were; how much had been waiting inside us all along… moments never lived, stories left unfinished, dreams drifting further away as time passed. That day we decided: we would say all of it in songs.

All at once, the words and the poems poured onto the page…

There was only one small problem; we needed a voice to sing for us. None of us had a good voice, and frankly none of us was willing to be the vocalist.

So we had to choose an AI vocalist. We named her Hasret Sıla; and since we would be making songs in both English and Turkish, the name of the band took shape as "yearning for home". Thank you Hasret Sıla Öztürk, we are glad you exist, we love you very much 🤍

As our music project went on, we never thought it could grow this much! Our feelings and our thoughts had become rivers, and now they were overflowing; we had to reach a sea!

So much so that we wanted to find a real vocalist who resembles Hasret Sıla! Our vocalist would sing in both English and Turkish. Unfortunately, this proposal of ours "is not accepted" today by Murat Öztürk, the originator of the project and also the father of our "Hasret Sıla". Who knows, perhaps one day we will persuade him… And if you, the fans of yearning for home, would support this with your messages, believe us, it would make us very happy!

We are aware of how sensitive the music industry and artists have lately become towards music made with Artificial Intelligence (AI), and we share the points they raise, their warnings and their reservations "with no ifs, no buts". We are also sorry to see that many people making AI music do not clearly state which parts of their songs used AI before they even reach the distribution stage. More troubling still, we see them pass through the distribution channel without any friction!

Since its very first day, yearning for home has clearly stated which parts of a song used AI, and has marked the relevant "tag" information during distribution. As one example, you can find this information in the "About the Artist" section of our Spotify page. In every one of our songs the music and the vocals are generated with AI; the words are written by "a real human being". We generate dozens of versions of a track, choose one among them, and then arrange and correct it into its final form. Despite that human work, all of the songs on every platform have been tagged as "GenerativeAI" by us ourselves, not by the platform!

We believe the most beautiful music will always come from human hands. Even so, alongside advancing technology, we believe that using AI "where it is needed" and "in service of a technical or design purpose" will bring movement to the music industry as well. Besides, although it is not described directly as Artificial Intelligence, for many years at studio level, and today even individual users, people have been arranging music with pre-recorded instruments and synthesiser tools.
